Following is a list of past MVPA
Seminars:
IATSE/MVPA Agreement instructional seminar took place, open to
members and non-members. We’d like to offer special thanks
to the members of our negotiating committee who led this seminar:
Randy Winograd (HSI Productions/Mars Media) and Sam Aslanian (DNA,
Inc.)
Base 2 Seminar
MVPA members were treated to an exceptional seminar at Base 2
Studios, guided by owner Morris Paulson. With a record high number
of attendees, the seminar took a look behind the smoke and mirrors
of post-production to offer insight about shooting and compositing
green screen elements, various applications of 3D animation, and
tips on the best way to shoot videos for treatments ranging from
crowd replication to 3D virtual environments.
Using examples of videos for artists such as Missy Elliott, Usher,
and Ja Rule, Paulson demonstrated how simple techniques and follow-through
during production can eliminate need - and cost - of extensive
post production. Paulson also emphasized that many difficulties
that are encountered in post-production can be easily avoided
with appropriate communication prior to a shoot.
Common green screen fumbles were discussed, such as green wardrobes,
heavy use of shiny jewelry, poor framing on the screen, water
and smoke effects, and wrinkles and shadows on the screen. “Rotoscope”
seemed to be the word of the night.
Interestingly, it was the glamour section of the seminar that
seemed to generate the most excitement, as Paulson showed off
techniques that make the beautiful so... beautiful.
