The Malloys (Black Dog Films) hit up Blink 182's "First Date"

Spicoli always loved whiffle ball.
During the Blink 182 "Rock Show" shoot, Tom and Mark brought up the idea of doing a video that played homage to Fast Times at Ridgemount High and Dazed and Confused. We came up with a concept that involved Tom, Mark and Travis spending a typical summer day in the 70's. Most of the ideas - the whiffle ball, the go-cart track and the water park - came from our own childhood.

All men resemble Steve Zahn while sporting blonde mustaches.
We went to a bunch of swap meets and found old surfer and rocker clothes along with skateboards, old headsets and props. When the guys started trying stuff on, their characters took on a life of their own. When Tom put on his handle-bar moustache, he really became Boomer.

Tight shorts forever.
We shot in a little town way up north that looked as though no improvements were done since the 70's: built-in retro. We gently declined the water park's offer to mask their more "modern" décor. Even the people in the water park were wearing the tight shorts; we didn't have to dress anybody, we didn't even close the place down.

'Smoked out' is actually a technical term.
We really wanted everything to have that authentic late 70's feel. We shot the video on 16mm film and really smoked out the blacks in post to give it that washed out look.

René René for President.
While we were shooting the performance footage of the guys dressed as the Bee-Gee's, a girl walked by with a horse. We asked her if we could use it for the shot and she just handed the reins to Mark who walked with it. We also had a guy named René René (who's known for getting "max" speed at the Water Slide) give the guys some pointers on how to arch into the turns. Those little details made it special for us. René René went on to play the Lifeguard in the video.
